Our Mission at Key Development Center (KDC) is to open doors to recovery, health and well-being and we are committed to excellence in all that we do. Our care is compassionate, inspires hope and there is openness, acceptance and understanding for all that we serve. We are dedicated to providing the best care possible to our clients and one way in which we do this is by continuous improvement of our organization, programs and services. Although the last one year has been challenging at Key Development Center due to the pandemic, we have kept our doors open and continued to provide services to Livingston County and the surrounding communities.
At KDC we are part of a recovery-oriented system of care (ROSC). ROSC is a comprehensive system of services including prevention, early engagement, early intervention and strengths and resilience of individuals, families and communities to take responsibility for the sustained health, wellness and recovery from alcohol and drug problems. In FY 2020-2021, there were 1,742 individuals who attended recovery groups, 658 peer support sessions, 416 case management sessions, 2,239 individual therapy sessions, and 620 psychiatric services provided. The Women’s Specialty Services Program is designed to address the complex needs of women who are risk for substance use disorder and are either pregnant, have dependent children or are in the process of regaining custody of their children and includes those with co-occurring mental health disorders. This specialty program addresses the overall physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being of women to promote optimal health, long-term sobriety and self-efficacy. Pregnant and parenting women are a priority for this program. In FY 2020-2021, there were 757 individual therapy sessions provided for women in the WSS program, 145 individuals attended group, 85 case management sessions were conducted and there were 74 hours of peer recovery coaching.
Our prevention programming, Project SUCCESS, has continued to provide much needed prevention education and counseling to all Livingston County middle school and high school students. Project SUCCESS is a program used to bring alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention messages to students, parents and the community through school-wide awareness activities. Included in these activities are individual and group counseling sessions, parent awareness and education programs, referral and case management, and follow-up. In FY 2020-2021, 795 Livingston County students were referred to the Project SUCCESS counselor, 382 students participated in groups and 86 students met with PS counselors for individual counseling.
Other services at KDC include our outpatient mental health/substance abuse services for individuals who are not covered under the ROSC umbrella. This program consists of a skilled team of behavioral health professionals who perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, biopsychosocial assessment, individual, group and family counseling for individuals and families who have a history of depression, anxiety, panic disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, substance use disorders or other emotional/behavioral difficulties. In FY 2020-2021, 1,209 individuals participated in therapy or psychiatric services.
